Learn how to make breads, rolls, fruit breads and yeasted cakes in our friendly workshops situated in the heart of historic Canterbury, Kent.

We will teach you about the variety of heritage grains used in our workshops including Kamut, Spelt, Wheat, Rye and Barley. Each grain is carefully selected to offer the optimum results in both appearance and nutrition for the item being made.

Milling our own grain on site ensures you will be working not only with the freshest ingredients possible, but the tastiest and most nutritious too!

Our Workshops:

We prefer to work with smaller groups (from 3 - 8 people) as we feel that you will receive the greatest benefit from studying and baking in a more personal environment.

Students can enjoy a 10% discount, as well as those making group bookings. Team-building and corporate workshops are welcome for businesses wanting to boost morale through baking!

  • Basic Bread Workshop

    Due to popular demand we are offering a short, basic course which includes learning bread making techniques while making different loaves of honest wholegrain bread. This course is perfect as an introduction to our real bread making workshops and so for beginners, those who are feeling rusty or those who wish to gain confidence with their baking.

  • Sourdough Made Simple Workshop

    You will make 2 different starters; a kamut heritage grain starter and a rye starter which you take home. You will learn the best and most traditional methods of developing, shaping and adapting your starters to make a variety of different sourdough breads. Included in your workshop will be a sourdough based lunch prepared during your class, alongside refreshments for the day. If you want to make wonderfully tasty, healthy, slow ageing bread, then this is the course for you.

  • Team Building Baking Workshop

    Why not try a workshop to get your team members or student teams bonding and boosted for work! We have decided to design a team building workshop here at Canterbury Baking School tailor made to suit your employees or student needs. Have fun, unwind and learn some new skills baking all the while building upon those many important qualities team players need to make internal communications great. You can even use the time to have your necessary meeting or class during your baking workshop! From pizza and pasta to all kinds of delicious breads, there is something to suit everyone!

  • Pasta Making Workshop

    Making your own pasta dough using our specialist flours, you will make two different sauces along with three different types of pasta including; tagliatelle, stuffed ravioli and farfalle. Constructing ravioli in two different ways accompanied by a delicious salad. You will be enjoying a delicious Italian feast for lunch with a traditional style cake!

  • Special introduction to our Workshops

    This will be a 2 hour session, available on Wednesdays at 10:30-12:30 and 18:30-20:30. You will receive an overview of all our workshops and participate in making some seeded rolls to take home.

  • Artisan Specialist Bread Workshop

    You'll learn the different techniques of baking and make three different types of bread - each using a different method. You can take home all of the produce you make and amaze your family and friends with your new baking skills! Mill your own flour and learn different techniques for kneading, forming and baking high quality artisan bread.

  • Pizza Workshop

    With traditional Italian style, learn how to make the perfect wholegrain pizza dough using your very own freshly milled flour. Develop you skills to be able to produce the best quality dough for many pizza recipes. This popular and exciting course not only lets you fill up on hand prepared lunch, but gives you a wonderful range of baked goods to take home and enjoy for supper or show family and friends your new amazing skills.

  • Enriched Sweet Dough Workshop

    Using sweet enriched dough's to create beautiful and scrumptious sweet breads- a wonderful accompaniment to any afternoon tea or supper. We make a wide variety. Examples include brioche, pain aux raisins, apricot couronne, other fruit based loaves and many more! With light lunch included, you will not only learn those essential baking skills, but get to sample your handy work.

    Our one-to-one workshops are ideal for those requiring a more tailored experience. We can create a workshop to your specific requirements and generally, can cover more techniques and learn additional skills compared to in our group workshops.

  • Childrens Party Package (16 and under)

    A wonderful present for any child. This gift package includes being able to spend the afternoon learning how to bake two different goodies in a fresh and fun environment. Parents go stress free as decorations, music, a buffet and birthday cake are provided.

    'Pyramid' technique
    of baking:

    The Pyramid Technique of baking
  • Stage 1

    An introduction to the 'Pyramid Technique' of bread-making. Our core ingredients at this stage are:

    Flour | Water | Salt | Yeast

    Using just these ingredients you will master the basic method to make a loaf of bread.

  • Stage 2

    Progress from the basic loaf to learn how to make rolls, focaccia, pittas and garlic bread. Our ingredients are now:

    Flour | Water | Salt | Yeast | Oil

    The simple addition of Oil makes it possible to bake a great variety of other breads.

  • Stage 3

    Building on stages 1 and 2, learn the effects when we add an additional ingredient to our core list:

    Flour | Water | Salt | Yeast | Oil | Sugar

    Sugar or something sweet enables us to create a whole host of goodies including buns, fruit breads and cakes.

Group workshops at Canterbury Baking School

Please Note:

Children under 16: £45 for a half day workshop.
Children under 16: £72 for a full day workshop.

All children need to be accompanied by an adult attending the course.

Children under 6: Free of Charge.

Multiple children booked: Price negotiable.
